About Me
Hi, I’m Marissa McHugh, a vascular surgeon by day and a passionate quilter by night. Balancing a high-stress career in medicine with the calming rhythm of hand quilting has been a transformative journey for me. Through my platform, The Surgical Sewist, I aim to share the therapeutic benefits of sewing and quilting with others, especially those in the medical field.
I specialize in English Paper Piecing (EPP), a technique I love for its portability and mindfulness. Whether I’m teaching beginners, creating tutorials, or helping kids learn to sew at my local library, my goal is to make quilting accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
When I’m not in the operating room or sewing studio, you’ll find me relaxing with my husband, children, and our menagerie of pets.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope to inspire you to stitch a little peace into your day!
